Hair Envy

You know how some people get food envy? Yeah well I get hair envy.
I found this perfect cut whilst perusing Schuman of the Sartorialist's latest finds http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/. This one is a winner, from his travels in Berlin. Thanks for bringing this to my attention matey. Now am I brave enough to give this cut a go? Hmmm. She pulls it off soo well...

I want her hair.

Off to Hong Kong for the weekend. More to come, and I'm putting a little piece together on my finds in Tokyo as well. A bit late, but better late than never!!

Much love

Homage to my old Boss

Peter Som has emerged from the financial crisis beautifully. Although they hit some rough times through the economic crisis in 2009 -- he is back and better than ever. The S/S 2010 collection was pretty nice, but the latest A/W 2010-11, woweee. I really loved it. The colours were so refreshing, and vibrant -- not the usual winter black and grey. And the fabrics, - the fur, the texture, the print. Love love love. And it's edgier than usual, which I am obviously a huge fan of. Well done Peter!!

Singapore is Feeding my Obsession with Japan

One fine day, I decided to head down to Haji lane, near Arab street. I had heard a lot of hype about this little lane.  I was very happily surprised to find that there was a small flea market going on. I found the cutest little book-stall, which had numerous interesting looking design, fashion, and philosophy books. Nestled amongst all of these books there was a curious one with an ominous looking figure on the cover. I found my eyes wandering to the cursive title etched in white on the black background "Japanese goth," and I felt shudders down my spine. I found a little treasure in Singapore!!! (we all know how much I love all things Japanese). This book is seriously interesting, it explains the inspiration behind the Japanese Goth trend.

I still don't think I really understand Japanese goth, but at least I have some insight into their inspiration. But seriously, how did the Japanese get so...inspired?! I have little experience with Japan (apart from the airport!), so I can't go into much detail, but even going to the airport is like stepping into another dimension. The best dimension ever. I don't know how they do it.

Dreaming about travels to Japan sometime this year. And having my hair styled in the shape of a small dog.

Hello Again Singapore

Dior once said "one breathes in fashion with the very air of Paris." Well in Singapore...not so much. And you read this a lot, its not just me being spoilt. They say its because Singaporians dress for comfort, you know flip flops and tank tops and such. But I'm not so sure that's accurate. In fact, I think thats a terrible excuse. Yeah, its really humid here. But, as we often say in NY -- "suck it up". So I guess the lack of fashion in Singapore deterred me from writing the blog..for a whole 3 months. But I'm back, armed with inspiration.

I'm not being a hundred percent fair, I must admit that Singapore isn't completely devoid of fashion. If you want luxury -- this is certainly the place to come. They have malls upon malls filled with Gucci, Prada, Giuseppe, Herve, YSL, Chanel, Louboutin and many many more! Singapore actually rescued me in a shoe crisis I had earlier this season. As you know, I had been coveting the black, leather Burberry Prorsum motorcycle boots since September when I first saw them in an editorial. And I stopped by Burberry at Ion to peruse what they had on offer (completely doubtful that they would have them), and they did!!! I was ready to make the purchase, when horror of horrors the salesman tells me they're 1899 SGD...."UMMM, excuse ME? They're 550 sterling, how can they be that much?" (Taking into considering the exchange rate as around 2.25 at the time -- these boots were a whopping 660 SGD or 300 sterling more than their English couterparts!!!!) Angry and upset, I quickly left. I searched on net-a-porter, only to find that they were sold out. Reluctantly, I put myself on the waiting list. I also called everyday to get the status of the delivery. One, sad morning on my daily call, the fashion advisor breaks the awful news "The order has been cancelled; production issues."

PRODUCTION ISSUES!!!! I hastily made phone calls to  the Burberry's of the world, I even had my boyfriend of only a few months assuring me that if they had some in California his mother could pick them up!! SOLD OUT EVERYWHERE. And then....from the darkness Singapore arose in my esteem -- I called Ion Orchard, they had one last pair in my size!

And I lived happily ever after. Thank you Singapore, and of course, thank you Christopher Bailey.

Mine, all mine.

Obsession

I have been completely obsessed with these Burberry Prorsum leather ankle boots ever since I layed eyes on them one fateful summer day in late August.

Of course, I have yet to find them in Singapore. I might just have to save up for November when I go back to NYC for thanksgiving.

Burberry Prorsum has done some amazing things for this fall, I'm a huge fan of Christopher Bailey. His  Spring 2010 collection recently hit the London Runways, with even more success. For photographs follow the link: http://www.style.com/fashionshows/review/S2010RTW-BURBERRY. I want to show you some of my favourite pieces from the show, but today the spotlight is on my soon-to-be boots!

Until next time!!

PS Its Formula 1 this weekend in Singapore, and yesterday evening I spotted Pharrell in Fendi in Takashimaya! He was rolling 7 deep, and was looking at the most overly-embellished bags for his lady friend.
