Searching for Beauty

Since Prada is getting ready to open its doors to its second flagship store in Ion, Orchard Road. I thought I  would pay homage to its forward thinking designer, Miuccia Prada. I found this old interview with her, which I think is fantastic -- it's conducted by CNN's Talk Asia at an exhibition of her work in Seoul, Korea earlier this year. Her perspective on her personal designs as a product of her intellect and her desire to produce something beautiful, is similar to the way that I view fashion. Enjoy! It's a great piece, Prada speaks frankly about her company, the state of the economy and its effect on fashion, and her colourful past as a communist, feminist, mime and politics PhD.

On a side note I love that she has placed a lot of her focus on Asia, where luxury fashion continues to be profitable despite the poor economic climate. Asia is the place to be -- come visit!!

Obsession

I have been completely obsessed with these Burberry Prorsum leather ankle boots ever since I layed eyes on them one fateful summer day in late August.

Of course, I have yet to find them in Singapore. I might just have to save up for November when I go back to NYC for thanksgiving.

Burberry Prorsum has done some amazing things for this fall, I'm a huge fan of Christopher Bailey. His  Spring 2010 collection recently hit the London Runways, with even more success. For photographs follow the link: http://www.style.com/fashionshows/review/S2010RTW-BURBERRY. I want to show you some of my favourite pieces from the show, but today the spotlight is on my soon-to-be boots!

Until next time!!

PS Its Formula 1 this weekend in Singapore, and yesterday evening I spotted Pharrell in Fendi in Takashimaya! He was rolling 7 deep, and was looking at the most overly-embellished bags for his lady friend.

All That Glitters

Sparkly sparkly sparkly. I always enjoy a good spotlight! Here are some party dresses which will do the trick -- even in the hot hot hot Singapore weather! My top 3:

1) Notte by Marchesa

2) Balmain.
3) Love the shoulder cutouts.

Since Formula 1 is coming to town, its never a better time to buy a party dress!!

Homesick

I miss New York. Getting my daily blasts from WWD and looking at style.com, and seeing all those pretty pictures of the S/S 2010 collections has made me yearn to be in NYC for fashion week. I was there this time last year. Sooo it's time for some nostalgia, here are some photos from the Marchesa S/S 2009 presentation. Last NYC post for a while, I promise.

On the way to the show. (From left to right) Patricia who is now assistant designer at Marchesa, but at the time of the photo she was a mere intern. (It just goes to show you p, that perseverance can get results). Niamh, the lovely redhead, who is currently finishing up fashion school and is going to be a fantabulous designer when she grows up. Finally Kim, who just finished, and is going to be equally as amazing!!

Time to get pretty.

oooh.ahhhh

Shiori, assistant designer at Marchesa at the time, making the finishing touches to the most publicised dress of the show (it was the dress that WWD featured on Marchesa's show the next day).

Almost time!!

That was my first New York fashion week, and it was amazing. Singapore had its first ever fashion "festival" in 2006. I'm not really sure what that means exactly, but it's something at least. No news of anything this fall. But I suppose that's what happens when the sun is always blazing - one season, one fashion festival?!

Goodbye New York City, Hello Singapore

My last night in NYC was September 10th, 2009, the same night as Fashion's night out. I started out uptown around 5th avenue. CHANEL was the first stop, where they were making customised versions of their Classic bag. The tempting invitation was so alluring:
"Create a modern classic - and be the first in the U.S. to own a customised, monogrammed CHANEL Classic bag.
Choose from eight lambskin colours with contrast linings, and hardware, for a bag designed exclusively for you
Classic Handbag $ 3,395
          Jumbo Classic Handbag $ 3, 595"
Unfortunately, they were a little out of my price range.
Right next to Chanel there was commotion at Dior, caused by Charlize Theron's appearance at the store.

After Dior, I ventured down to Prada. Vogue's Grace Coddington created a fantastical Little Red Riding Hood display in the 5th Avenue shop.

The crowds queuing up to meet The September Issue star.

Doutzen Kroes, hidden amongst a gaggle of young girls was also at Prada.

The Ferragamo party, complete with a wine and champagne bar and a DJ.

Escada had the most interesting window displays of models eating pizza. I wonder if the models were paid extra for it...

Isabel Toledo signing books at Barneys.

In the last hour of my favourite night ever in NYC, I ventured down to see the fashion action in the meatpacking district. Helmut Lang was making customised leather jackets. yum yum. My friend trying to decide whether to fork out $2000 for one...The outcome was not a happy one.

I ended the evening with a last supper at the Waverly, where I spotted a very pregnant Karolina Kurkova.
