Homage to my old Boss

Peter Som has emerged from the financial crisis beautifully. Although they hit some rough times through the economic crisis in 2009 -- he is back and better than ever. The S/S 2010 collection was pretty nice, but the latest A/W 2010-11, woweee. I really loved it. The colours were so refreshing, and vibrant -- not the usual winter black and grey. And the fabrics, - the fur, the texture, the print. Love love love. And it's edgier than usual, which I am obviously a huge fan of. Well done Peter!!

A Few Days of Silence

I dedicate my past week of silence to Alexander Mcqueen. It really upset me that other fashion blogs stopped writing about him only after a mere few days. This is a great loss, and despite the fashion world going on with NY fashion week, I wanted to pay my respects to one of the greatest designers of our time through a silence.

Singapore is Feeding my Obsession with Japan

One fine day, I decided to head down to Haji lane, near Arab street. I had heard a lot of hype about this little lane.  I was very happily surprised to find that there was a small flea market going on. I found the cutest little book-stall, which had numerous interesting looking design, fashion, and philosophy books. Nestled amongst all of these books there was a curious one with an ominous looking figure on the cover. I found my eyes wandering to the cursive title etched in white on the black background "Japanese goth," and I felt shudders down my spine. I found a little treasure in Singapore!!! (we all know how much I love all things Japanese). This book is seriously interesting, it explains the inspiration behind the Japanese Goth trend.

I still don't think I really understand Japanese goth, but at least I have some insight into their inspiration. But seriously, how did the Japanese get so...inspired?! I have little experience with Japan (apart from the airport!), so I can't go into much detail, but even going to the airport is like stepping into another dimension. The best dimension ever. I don't know how they do it.

Dreaming about travels to Japan sometime this year. And having my hair styled in the shape of a small dog.

In pursuit of treasure and discovering the depths of my narcissism

I've been in Singapore for long enough to conclude that it lacks a creative dimension. So when I found out about MAAD - Market of Artists and Designers, my little heart skipped a beat! Oh me oh my I think I'm on to something, I thought I had found something reminiscent of the Brooklyn flea market. Away I went on my mini adventure on Saturday morning a mere 10 minute cab ride from my apartment (Singapore is tiny), and lo and behold in the Red Dot Museum I find a little little market. Now I was hoping to find a wealth of goodies that I might be able to purchase, clothes and jewelry and such, but to no avail. MAAD's offering was nice to browse but not really for me. It's more design than fashion/flea.
What I did find however, was completely unexpected and fantastic -- a small consortium of artists who were drawing people's portraits. Now the narcissist in me jumped at the chance to sit pretty whilst 30 people concentrated on nothing but me. Let there be light!!

Paint your shoes Nude

Surface magazine collaborated with United Nude in this month's edition. And thank God they did, because otherwise I would have never discovered such an awesome line. Check it out...

Here are a couple of pages from the magazine:

And the shoes, sigh...

The brand is based in China, but they're pretty well distributed. I was happy to find you can even find them here in singapore!

Fruits

I got sick in NY, which is why I've been away for so long. Anyway, en route back to sunny Singapore I had a stopover at Tokyo Narita airport. I love stopping over in Tokyo, its my favourite airport because I get to stock up on Japanese magazines. I don't speak Japanese, so its all about the pictures!! Anyway, I picked up a fruits magazine. It focuses on Japanese street fashion, it's sort of a magazine form of the Sartorialist. Its amazing.

On a side note I've always wondered why the Japanese are fixated by fruits... They love their fruits in fashion and they love their actual fruits! Japanese-grown mellons can retail for 50 bucks, its crazy!! I still haven't figured out this fixation...but I love the magazine and their fruits!

More Fruits!! An actual category in the style section. You know like prints, or safari... fruits?!?
